Since the establishment of the Erie County Federation of Republican Women in July, 2012, it has been the goal of this organization to encourage and support the candidacy of Republican women for public office.
We are proud and fortunate to have had several ECFRW members who have been elected or re-elected to office: Family Court, Supreme Court, Town Clerk, to name a few.
Congratulations to Erie County Federation of Republican Women Corresponding Secretary on her appointment as Judicial District Director of the 8th JD representing Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans & Wyoming Counties! Taking office on January 1st, 2018, the position of Judicial District Director affords her the opportunity to be a member of the Executive Committee and Council of the New York State Federation of Republican Women! She follows in the footsteps of President Kim Bowers who preceded her in holding that position. President Bowers is also the Corresponding Secretary for the New York State Federation of Republican Women.
In April 2017, Kim Bowers, Melissa Heath and Lana Tupchik attended the NYSFRW Conference in Albany which also included Erie County Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy as guest speaker! Kellyanne Conway, before she was Counselor to the President for Donald Trump, spoke on her experiences as a Republican Party campaign manager, strategist, and pollster who was formerly president and CEO of The Polling Company Inc./Woman Trend.
In 2015, it was our Honor and Privilege to recognize five amazing women - leaders of our local committees - who are on the front lines of promoting teamwork and fostering Republican goals. In recognition of their tireless, selfless efforts at political success and achievements, we honored, Shirley Limpinsel, Tracey Mcerney, Barbara Lipka, Christine Pilozzi and Patricia DePasquale, with the 1st Woman of Distinction Award.
In 2016, we presented our 2nd Woman of Distinction Award to Senator Mary Lou Rath! Senator Mary Lou Rath, was elected to the Erie County Legislature in 1977 where she served as Republican Leader. In 1994 she became the first woman ever to serve the 61st District in the New York State Senate and the only woman serving on the Republican side of the aisle in the State Legislature! While a County Legislator, she earned statewide reputation for her efforts to reform Medicaid and the skyrocketing cost of health care. She created the Medicaid Welfare Coalition in which she became very influential in the discussions in Albany to get a cap on Medicaid spending and relief for county property
taxpayers. She was a pioneer for women in politics and her constituents were lucky to have her as their Senator!
In 2017, we recognized Robin Sion with the 3rd Woman of Distinction Award! Not only serving as Deputy Commissioner of the Erie County Board of Elections, Robin has been instrumental in assisting town Republican committees and candidates with compliance of campaign finance regulations as well as petition gathering throughout the County!
In 2018, the ECFRW recognized the Republican women Town Clerks with the 4th Woman of Distinction Award! We know our Town Clerks all too well... we make our payments in their names for our taxes twice a year! And while there are other times we may visit them in their office, we usually do not have much interaction with them yet they have a very important job... they are the glue that helps keep our Towns running seamlessly!
